Choosing A Natural Health Magazine Which is Unbiased

Natural health magazines abound, often giving you conflicting advice. Who should you believe?

I believe any good natural health magazine, like any good magazine, shouldn’t so much give you advice, rather they should give unbiased important pros and cons and leave you to work out the best solution for you.

After all you are unique. What is helpful to the magazine editor may be harmful to you. Only you can decide.

Being unbiased is hugely important. We’re all reading in the news how doctors have been paid to create unsubstantiated ‘scientific’ papers supporting some drug or other.

Natural health magazine editors are people too. Some good, some bad, some indifferent. If the editor only advocates items they receive a royalty form, they aren’t unbiased.

Sure, we all need to make our daily crust, but it’s best to be open about what we profit from.

A good natural health magazine should look at all aspects of health, not just focus on physical ailments. For example, diet is critical to good health.

I recently read of six people, all suffering with type 2 diabetes, on insulin and all obese. Within one week of a change of diet, most were off their insulin. Within one month, they all were.

Isn’t that awesome?

I find it extraordinary that doctors receive no nutritional training whatsoever.

Yet I doubt there is a natural health therapist who doesn’t understand the importance of diet.

Natural health covers every aspect of who you are. You aren’t just your body. You aren’t just your mind. You are a unique and complex unit. Your feelings and emotions are as important (actually more so) as your thoughts and creations.

So any natural health magazine worth its salt will cover aspects of your emotional health, as well as your physical health. When you ignore your emotional health, sooner or later you’ll suffer physical ill health.

Everyone knows that stress causes anxiety and that anxiety causes higher blood pressure and faster heart rate. While that’s fine for a short period, if you continually have these ‘anxiety attacks’, your physical health will deteriorate.

But you don’t have to resort to drugs. There are many effective, natural alternatives. And homeopathy can actually get to the cause of why you are suffering these attacks in the first place.

And fix it.

And lastly, your magazine should have a readers question area. Whilst the answer may not be specifically helpful for your ailment, they should be able to point you in the right direction. They should know what areas each natural health modality excels in and which has limited ability.

For example, you wouldn’t go to a masseuse if you had incontinence. And you probably wouldn’t go to a chiropractor if you had a torn ligament. It’s doubtful you’d see an acupuncturist if you had been abused as a child.

Yet all these health issues can be resolved using homeopathy.

How Effective is Natural Healing?

You may not be aware of it, but your body has a tremendous capacity to heal you.

From anything.

So why doesn’t it?

Because you’re out of balance!

Once you’re back in natural balance, true natural healing is possible.

So what does out of balance mean, and how do you put yourself back into balance?

You only have to look as far as nature to see what natural balance is. Living the stressful life that is the mainstay of modern day human existence is probably the main contributing factor for your lack of balance.

I’m not necessarily promoting the idea that you give up your job and live in the bush. You can do anything and remain in natural balance.

It’s how you handle things that shows up your balance, or lack of.

Most people don’t handle things very well. You might get angry or defensive when someone criticises you. You don’t take enough ‘you’ time, time to relax or reflect. You may not be eating well. You may be partying and drinking too much.

Natural healing can only come about when you consider you as an entire entity. Your thoughts, your physical challenges, your feelings are all connected. If you have been taken physically ill, it’s more than likely because you didn’t listen to your inner self, which was telling you to slow down, or get another job, or get out of your current relationship.

When you don’t listen, something takes over and MAKES you listen. A spell in hospital may be the only way you will reflect on your life. That doesn’t sound very much like natural healing, I hear you say. And no it isn’t. But if the time and experience there makes you take stock and turn your life around, then it has been beneficial.

Natural healing can’t come about if you’re putting garbage food into your body on a regular basis.

Garbage in, garbage out.

Healthy food, natural supplements regular light exercise, lots of time to relax, listening to your inner voice for major, and minor, life decisions are the best ways to allow your body to get into the natural healing mode it knows so well and does so efficiently.

It’s doubtful there is a human alive who doesn’t have some issues or life experience that is holding them back, keeping them in a rut or preventing them from moving forward in the way they really want to.

This is because these issues haven’t been properly resolved. You may think you’ve got over the death of your whoever, or the abuse you suffered as a child. But if you either don’t want to think/talk about it or cry or feel emotional when you do, you know you haven’t resolved it.

And you can’t move forward until you do. Once you have truly resolved it, your body’s innate natural healing powers come into their own, and away you go.

One of the best ways, if not the best way, of helping you resolve these deep issues is homeopathy. Homeopathy has the unique capacity to quickly put you back into balance, so your natural healing powers can once more resume their efficient task.

You can tell what problems are upper most in your life, by the physical ails you succumb to.

The liver is where anger is stored. Ever heard of the phrase ‘he’s a bit liverish today’, meaning he’s angry. So if you’re regularly angry or irritable, it’s likely your liver is struggling. It may not show up on a blood test. Yet. But it will, if you don’t take steps to resolve it.

The kidneys are where fear is stored. Are you getting lots of urinary tract infections? Check out what you’re fearful of. That can be a bit challenging on your own, and you may need the help of a therapist, such as a homoeopath.

The lungs are the seat of grief. Displaced people/immigrants often succumb to tuberculosis. TB is all about the lungs. Displaced people are often fleeing from their country out of necessity rather than choice, leaving their family behind.

So if you want to have a magical life, one where things just keep going right, feed your body well, respect it, listen to it, make sure you have daily relaxation and get professional help with your deep seated problems.

Balance your yin (female) and yang (male) energy.

Healing you does more to heal the world than anything else.

Seven Reasons Why Natural Health Remedies are Regaining Their Previous Popularity

Natural health is enjoying a huge increase in popularity, at the moment. Why do you think this is? Here are a few of my thoughts.

  1. Natural health takes into consideration the whole person. After all, your mind and your little toe are all important aspects of you. (Main stream health care isolates parts of the body, as if they aren’t connected.)
  2. Natural health works on very basic and universal laws, which are violated at your peril! This means everything is considered important including your diet, your stress levels, your living conditions, your self-confidence, your exposure to harmful substances, your lack of exposure to healthy conditions, the physical or emotional traumas you have had.
  3. Your body is constantly trying to keep you as healthy as possible. Natural health remedies work by supporting your body in this aim, rather than opposing your body as happens with pharmaceutical drugs.
  4. Natural health remedies give you the power to heal yourself - you are always in charge. (Compare that with the medical point of view that the doctor is in charge of your health.)
  5. There are no side effects when using natural health remedies. We’ve all heard of people who have experienced worse symptoms from the side effects of drugs, than that of the original complaint.
  6. You can often prescribe yourself natural health supplements - you don’t need expert advice.
  7. Natural health remedies are timeless because they work within universal laws. They will never be dated. New ones may become available. But they will never drop out of popularity because of their ineffectiveness. Rather, as has happened, they are pushed out of popularity for that very reason - they are powerfully effective.

I love the concept that every part of our bodies are dependant on each other, all parts make up the whole - from your emotions, to your physical aches.

And to take it further, that every person is part of the whole planet. So by improving your health naturally, you’re contributing to a healthier planet.

I also love the idea that you are in charge of your health. No one can do anything for you (or to you for that matter) without your permission. Taking control of your own health naturally, is a rewarding journey.

Natural health can be anything from massaging a sore muscle to working on your negative thoughts, and everything in between. The important thing to remember is that you matter, you have control. You’re in the driver’s seat as far as your health is concerned.

Natural health remedies are normally in the form of homeopathic, herbal, flower, colour or ‘energy’ remedies. You normally take them orally, but sometimes you can just put them on your skin.

Typically the results that you obtain from them is subtle. Negativity or ailments tend to melt away without any song and dance. So much so that you can think they’re not working. It’s only by diligently recording all your issues prior to starting your treatment, that you’ll know if you’re making any headway. An industrious practitioner will always take copious notes of your current ailments.

My preference within the natural health remedies available lie with homeopathic remedies. From experience, I’ve learned how powerful they are. They can go back a lifetime, to the traumas you suffered as an infant, even in utero, whatever age you are now. These traumas all have an impact on who you are now and the type of ailments you’re suffering. By addressing these issues, you can drop those burdens you’ve been carrying.

Is Natural Medicine or Natural Health Expensive?

In countries where basic health care is a right, and supplied free by the government (paid for by your taxes), natural health may appear to come at a price. But only if you compare it against the cost (or lack) of the consultation plus the prescription.

If you have to pay for your health care consultations and full price for your prescriptions, most if not all natural medicine is highly cost effective.

But you can’t just compare the cost of the consultations plus the prescriptions. For a truly accurate assessment of cost comparison, you must also take into consideration the overall efficiency of the consultation - ie how good or effective is the prescription.

As a body, natural health practitioners tend to look at your overall health care, including diet, relationship issues, work environment as well as individualising you as a person, to find those ‘specially for you’ remedies. So the consultation tends to be quite long - usually upwards of half an hour, depending on the modality.

Straight away you can see what value you’re receiving. The practitioner is truly interested in you and wants to find out your particular ‘achilles heel’. Rarely will a natural medicine therapist treat you dismissively, giving you just a few minutes to hear your story. After all, how can you pour out a life into a few minutes?

Natural medicine tends to work far better when the cause is addressed. It’s no good treating the effect, as that tends to make it worse, with more furious attacks later. Take anaphylactic shock, which can occur from a variety of causes. Lets take an allergy to bee stings to illustrate my point.

Those allergic to bee stings can suffer seriously, with swelling going far beyond the sting site, possibly even to your throat making breathing difficult, taking days or even weeks to reduce the swelling and pain. If you’re used to taking antihistamine, you know full well, that each time you have a sting, the condition worsens.

If, on the other hand, you treat the bee sting with a homeopathic remedy such as Ledum or Apis, you will not only resolve the problem more easily and quickly, but each time you are bitten, the reaction will lessen, until it becomes what is considered normal.

So when you are weighing up the cost of natural health versus western medicine, take into consideration the long term view.

As a natural medicine practitioner, I know I don’t get the right remedy 100% of the time. That used to bother me. I used to be concerned that I was wasting my patient’s hard earned cash if I didn’t deliver.

Now I realise that it’s not just me at fault. Apart from the fact I’m human and so do make mistakes, if the patient isn’t forthcoming, I can’t do much.

But what I really admire about natural medicine is that when I do make a mistake, it doesn’t have any real impact on you, the patient. I didn’t take the wrong kidney out, or give you too large a dose of a dangerous drug which pushed you close to or over the edge.

And when you consider the cost of surgery, you can have many, many natural medicine consultations to the same value. Somewhere within them, one natural health practitioner or another will be able to help you.

Natural Health is All About You Being in Control

Natural health is timeless. It will never date. It will always be relevant, despite what the media tells you about ‘new’, ‘improved’, ‘scientific’ and all the other gimmicky words that are only employed to impress you enough to buy something.

And, happily, natural health is currently enjoying the comeback it deserves.

To enjoy it, there are at least three really important aspects to address.

The first is your diet. There’s a saying that a quarter of what you eat keeps you alive. Three quarters of what you eat keeps your doctor alive. So if you eat a typical western diet of fast foods, canned drinks and sweets or chocolate, you know you’re heading for disaster.

A natural diet consists of lots of fresh fruit and vegetables, preferably raw. Raw isn’t essential, but will take you that extra mile. As long as at least 30% is raw, you’ll do all right. By raw I mean unpasteurised, unheated in any way, un-radiated, unadulterated. Just fresh produce recently harvested.

So fresh produce should be the bulk of your diet. If you can’t see yourself eating a lot of fresh produce, then I suggest you invest in a food dehydrator. That dries fresh food without losing the nutrients in them. Have you ever tried dried strawberries? They are absolutely delicious.

I’m sure you’ll enjoy making your own un-sundried tomatoes, too.

And try foods you haven’t tried before. My neighbour has never tried avocado and yet they could grow in her back yard. Be adventurous!

The next biggest food group is the nuts, seeds, rice, oats and yoghurt

Then come eggs, bread, wheat, cereal, fish, chicken, chocolate.

Then comes the red meat.

Lastly comes artificial sweeteners. My suggestion is to avoid these altogether.

This diet follows the 80/20 principle. Eat 80% alkalising foods (fruit, veggies, whole foods) and only 20% acid food (meat, sugar, processed foods such as white bread, white pasta, white rice, sweets).

If you maintain this diet, it’s amazing what ailments won’t affect you. Make sure 100% of what you eat goes into keeping you healthy, not just alive. And let the doctors starve!

Another really important aspect of natural health is your health care modality. Obviously that’s going to be a natural one. Which you choose is a very personal matter. But I suggest you remain open and honour your feelings. Your feelings will always take you in the right direction. I have long since learnt the folly of following my head over my feelings. It never works!

With evidence now suggesting a link between taking antibiotics and cancer, your choice of a natural health care system will ensure as healthy a body as you can get. All drugs and medication have a knock-on effect with your health. That’s why it becomes a slippery slope - you suddenly find you’re on a myriad of drugs, with one countering another’s side effects.

The last important point of natural health, is keeping your environment healthy. This will almost guarantee you a healthy body. This means your home really is your castle, your sanctuary. Make sure you create a peaceful and happy home. Work on areas that aren’t. Don’t put up with them. It may be your upbringing that makes you a negative person. It may be you are living with people who don’t support you. List those things that aren’t nurturing you and decide what to do about them.

Time spent with animals is invariably calming, as is time spent in nature. Visit the park regularly. Walk on the beach. Watch a thunderstorm. Make sure you have, even if short, time for yourself every day. And use it to recharge your batteries - whether it’s gardening, sun-bathing or walking your dog. Just make sure it benefits you. That without it, you’re more volatile, have less energy or just don’t cope as well.

Many people think they can’t have time out for themselves as they have too much to do. This is not how it works. The more you stress, the less you accomplish. The less you stress, the more you accomplish and in less time.

Natural health is really all about you being in control of you. You create your life. So why not make it as fun, as joyful as possible? You are important. If you’re joyful, it will rub off on others.

Maybe subscribe to a natural health magazine as that will not only help keep you on track, but will also provide you with useful hints and tips.

And lastly, don’t forget that people will readily mock you, with your new found natural health care, because you’ll be showing them up. Don’t let them dissuade you.
